President picks fight with New Scotland Yard during London terror investigation

Following this morning’s tragic terrorist attack on London, the President of the United States, Donald Trump, appeared to pick a fight with New Scotland Yard on Twitter.

He criticised New Scotland Yard for not being “pro-active” enough in preventing the attack, the fourth on London this year, and went on to say that the US travel ban “should be far larger, tougher, and more specific-but stupidly, that would not be politically correct!”

The Prime Minister, Theresa May, appeared to rebuke Trump in her statement, saying “I never think it’s helpful for anyone to speculate on what is an ongoing investigation.”

What we know about the attack so far is that an explosion occurred on an underground train, following which a terrorist incident was declared at Parsons Green tube station. According to the Metropolitan Police’s Mark Rowley, the explosion was caused by an IED (Improvised Explosive Device) that only partly exploded. 22 people are being treated for injuries sustained in the explosion. The Prime Minister has chaired a meeting of COBRA, and the Terrorist Threat Level is to remain at severe. While no arrests have been made in connection with the incident, the Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has confirmed that a man-hunt is underway.
